Dental Anxiety

Comfort and Calm: How Tooth Dental help Anxious Patients

For many people, visiting the dentist can be a source of anxiety and fear. The whirring sounds of dental equipment, unfamiliar surroundings, and the fear of pain can make even a routine dental check-up seem scary!

Good news – there are many ways to help you manage your dental anxiety or phobia. First, it is really important to let us know if you experience any level of dental anxiety.

You can let us know over the phone when making your appointment, or in the notes when booking your appointment online. The more we know about you and your individual triggers, the more we will understand and be able to help you manage or ease your anxiety.

Read on to learn more about how Tooth Dental can help you manage dental anxiety.

A Friendly Paw to Hold (Therapy Dogs)

You’re welcome to bring your therapy or assistant dog along to the clinic if it’ll help manage the appointment! We love to meet your furry friends and it’s always a treat for everyone here 🙂

Please let us know beforehand if you’d like to bring a dog along to your appointment (so we can get excited!).

Weighted Blankets, Wheat Packs and Plush Toys

Weighted blankets have become increasingly popular for their calming effects. We offer these comforting blankets to patients, helping you feel secure and relaxed during dental procedures. The gentle pressure from the weighted blankets can have a soothing effect on the nervous system, reducing anxiety and promoting a sense of well-being.

Another option is a warm wheat pack draped across your shoulders – this has worked wonders for many of our clients.

We also have a range of weighted plush toys if you prefer to use them to help!

Sensory Distraction: Music and Movies

Sensory distraction is a great way to help reduce anxiety. Patients at Tooth Dental have the option to listen to their favorite music or watch a TV show during their appointment.

This helps shift focus away from the dental procedure and allows our patients to relax and enjoy the experience.

Low Sensory Room

Our green space is a low sensory room where you’re able to relax and avoid high stimulation.

Our sensory-friendly dentists have helped develop a warm, inviting multi-purpose room where you’ll forget all about the dentist and can relax before or after your appointment.

It’s also used as a consultation room if you’d prefer to have a relaxing atmosphere to talk about your teeth goals.

A Personalised Approach

Tooth Dental recognises that each patient is unique, and anxiety can manifest differently from person to person. Therefore, we take a personalised approach to patient care. Before any treatment, we conduct a thorough consultation to understand the patient’s concerns and tailor their care accordingly.

This customised approach helps create a sense of control for the patient, reducing anxiety levels.

Our Warm, Welcoming Staff

Beyond the amenities and comfort measures, it’s the staff at Tooth Dental that truly make the difference.

Our team is trained to understand and empathise with the needs of anxious patients. They take the time to explain procedures, answer questions, and provide emotional support, ensuring that patients feel heard and cared for throughout their visit.

Alternatives

We can help with treatment under general anesthetic in hospital, and also have access to oral anxiolytic tablets which can be used if required.
